My fiancé and I checked in here because it was very close to the Broadway show we were going to see. Consistent small issues, were happening. One after another. From a 30 minute check-in . Listening to the lady at the front desk, talking about her personal life and almost begging us for a good review. Then to walking to our floor and hallway being stifling hot, and our hotel room was worse. Then, our shower drain backing up onto the bathroom floor. Then to the air-conditioning system not working the entire night. It showed 78 when we came in, and 77 when we left, even turning the thermostat down to 65 the entire night. The final straw was being woken up to the smell of cigarettes in the early morning and in the hallway.
I would never stay here again even if it was free.
Okay...A few things...I have stayed at Hotels all over the States...It seems as if NY is the only state I have encountered that charges a fee ON TOP of the taxes and Hotel Taxes...This took me for a loop. I thought maybe it was just this Hotel, but I found out it is basically all in NYC. That being said, this Hotel is SMACK, Dab in the Middle of every Tourist's dream, Mid-Town, near Theater and Times Sq. They give you a voucher for a grab and go breakfast here. I was on the newly refurbished 19th floor. The room was very adequate. The walls are very thin ( you could hear a lot from the hallway). My only gripe is that the Hot water (shower) is terrible. I tried to take a decent shower at many different hours to no avail. Construction begins, on adjacent floors at about 8:30 am...I think a strong 3 1/2 stars.
BTW: MAUREEN was the housekeeper on my floor. She was absolutely wonderful. She works so hard, yet she went out of her way to get me little room amenities I was lacking (shower gel, moisturizer, big towel).
Overall I have rated this hotel one star due to terrible environment in the hotel. We stayed there four days and two of them they had sign in front of the hotel “SHAME HOTEL OF MANHATTAN”. Our cell phone was stolen, heater was not working properly by making terrible sound, floor ice and water machine for the floor we stayed wasn’t fixed even though we told them couple time… But bed was clean, staff seemed welcoming. That is a reason I think they deserve one star not zero.
The staff was kind and excellent. The floor I was on however was like staying in construction zone. Wet paint in the halls with signs everywhere and ice and water bottle fill station did not work. The room while clean enough was also in very poor condition. The walls were bare with outlines of where art used to be hung, the headboard had tears and rips in it and there was one light. They were clearly renovating but should not have let guest stay in those rooms. It was not a pleasant experience.
The checkin went smoothly, the room was small but clean. The bed was comfortable. The air conditioning was lackluster, we were hot all night. The shower water was tepid. One of the bedside lights was broken and fell out of its housing. But great location, decent price, quiet. Nice staff.
If all you care about is a place to lay your head at night- this is the place for you. However, if you want to sleep, forget it. The walls are paper thin, the bed is lumpy and two sizes smaller than it should be. NO amenities, the 3 little stained lamps did not work, the two outlets did not work, the heat nor air did not work (it was stifling on Jan. 16-19th in our room). The carpet is stained and coming up in spots ( hall and bathroom). The wallpaper is stained and also around 50 years old. The safes don’t work. The faucets leaked. Don’t believe all the good reviews on ANY site ( like I did). The reviews are not even close. There are no “room renovations being made”. The hotel employees hear the same complaints over and over. Our nice reward ignored. The management does not care. Don’t stay here unless you want to be in a room that is not much better than a Motel six. They also charged an extra $150 up front for some reason-our bill was prepaid via Expedia. I also made this review upon checking in and never heard anything. No ones cares anymore. Don’t stay here.
